Statement of support

What MPs are saying about ending Scotland’s energy bill rip-off.
✅ Public support 🗣️ Quotes
Stephen Flynn MP
Aberdeen South
Supports
“Scotland is a net exporter of energy and a cornerstone of renewable generation across these isles, yet Scottish households are consistently lumbered with the highest standing charges in the UK.

Families and businesses in my constituency and across the North East are being penalised simply for where they live, whilst the energy they produce props up the wider UK system. The UK Government’s refusal to deal with this, or to rein in a regulator that appears entirely disconnected from Scotland’s reality, is indefensible.

Whilst Labour MPs fight like rats in a sack, families are paying the price for Labour Party failure as the cost of living soars under Keir Starmer. Energy bills are £500 higher than promised, food prices have gone through the roof, and people are having to break the bank to heat their homes through extremely low temperatures.”
Kirsty Blackman MP
Aberdeen North
Supports
“Energy prices are dramatically impacting the cost of living, and nobody should be forced to switch their heating off in order to afford daily life.”
Graham Leadbitter MP
Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey
Supports
“Scotland is an energy rich nation, yet pays amongst the highest energy prices in the UK and amongst the highest in Europe. This discrimination has been continued by successive UK Governments and must end.”
Chris Law MP
Dundee Central
Supports
“People across Scotland are being ripped off by a broken energy system overseen by Westminster which penalises Scots with some of the world’s highest energy prices.
The UK Government must recognise that a system which penalises people simply for where they live, even when they live in an area which provides more energy than it takes, is not one that is fit for purpose.”
Dave Doogan MP
Angus and Perthshire Glens
Supports
“Scotland is an energy-rich nation, but under Westminster control we are being consistently ripped off. Despite producing vast amounts of clean, low-cost renewable power, households here face higher bills and higher standing charges simply because of where we live.

Under Westminster’s dysfunctional regulator OFGEM, households, generators and businesses in Scotland are being exploited by disproportionately higher costs and unjust charges. This represents a massive structural impediment to Scotland’s economy which will only be resolved with independence.”
