Second Scottish Independence Congress 23/24

Believe in Scotland is hosting a series of events and discussions to agree how we and our 142 affiliated local and national Yes Groups campaign in 2024. We will also consider carefully how we respond officially to the suggested routes to independence that come out of the political party conferences in October.

As a result we decided to reschedule and redesign the Scottish Independence Congress, which was originally planned for Saturday, 28th of October 2023. This will give us time to discuss how our campaign relates to the presumed October 2024 UK General Election and to consider the approaches suggested by the Scottish Green Party and Alba Party conferences.

We have decided to hold a single-issue mini congress for all Yes Group organisers on Wednesday, 22nd of November, 2023.

This will be a two hour online session (6.30pm till 8.30pm) open to local and national campaigning Yes Groups, dedicated to discussing how we respond to the routes to independence set out by all three main pro-indy parties and the role Yes Groups can have within the suggested routes.

We will also agree on the date of the rescheduled Scottish Independence Congress at the meeting on the 22nd of November. The Congress which is open to organisers of active independence campaigning groups (regardless of affiliation) will preferably be arranged for early in the new year. This means we can launch our 2024 campaign with the Scottish Independence Congress and possibly open up a section to wider participation.

Thank you to those who registered as delegates and to those who have submitted motions – all motions and delegates will be carried over to the new Congress date unless we are otherwise informed.

We believe that more time to contemplate the route to independence and the Yes movement's role within that route will be to our advantage in the long run and allow us to hold a far more impactful Scottish Independence Congress to help us in shaping our campaign in 2024.
