Title: Believe in Scotland’s Campaign, End the Scottish Energy Bill Rip-Off

Motion Text: That the Parliament backs the Believe in Scotland campaign, End the Scottish Energy Bill Rip-Off, which states that Scotland's households pay the highest standing charges in the UK, despite Scotland producing vast amounts of affordable renewable power; notes that the campaign has five key demands of the UK Government, the first being to being an end to what it sees as the unfair extra standing charges for consumers in Scotland, the second to deliver a fair, transparent energy pricing system that does not harm Scotland’s economy, the third to have the provision of a pricing benefit that recognises Scotland’s contribution to clean energy generation, the fourth to publish a plan, with committed dates, to lower energy bills for Scotland's domestic and business consumers and, finally, the fifth demand is to cancel all new energy price rises planned in 2026 by the regulator, Ofgem; calls on the UK Government to heed these demands and ensure that Scotland's consumers get the cheaper bills that were promised when the current UK administration came to power in 2024; believes that an energy-rich nation such as Scotland should not have people living in fuel poverty, and concludes that, ultimately, the best way to ensure this is for Scotland to have the full powers over energy policy, which, it believes, that a fresh start with independence would deliver."
