Supports

I fully support both the aims of this campaign and the Believe in Scotland campaign more broadly.

The Union has served Scotland badly, but in few areas as badly as in energy policy.

I’ve worked closely with Believe in Scotland throughout my time as MSP and before, and with Gordon McIntyre-Kemp at pro-independence events in the past, and I am looking forward to continuing that work as we head towards polling day in Scotland’s General Election on May 7th, where we need strong SNP voices standing up for our country not only when it comes to energy policy, but across the range of policies and powers that only independence can help us achieve transformational change in.

The Scottish Government has done its best with the limited powers it has over energy policy, but the hard fact is that without the full powers of independence, it will always be fighting with both hands tied around its back.

But in advance of independence, it is incumbent on the UK Government to transfer all necessary powers over energy and related policy to the Scottish Parliament as quickly as possible, to allow our democratically elected Parliament to begin the job of repairing the damage the UK has inflicted on our energy industry, on communities, and on households across Scotland.

Supports
In a country as energy rich as Scotland, we should have no one in fuel poverty and we should collectively be benefitting from amongst the lowest energy bills in Europe.
