March and Rally for an Independent Scotland in the EU

Believe in Scotland announces plans for first-ever march and rally.

The march and rally for an independent Scotland in the EU is a partnership event with Yes for EU and will take place on Saturday, 2nd September in Edinburgh.

Believe in Scotland is the independence campaign comprising 131 affiliated local and 10 national Yes groups. Yes for EU is one of those affiliated national campaigns; an active grassroots group set up in 2020 in the wake of Brexit, it campaigns on the issues of independence and EU membership, bringing those who were No in 2014 to the cause of Yes.

Believe in Scotland and Yes for EU are calling for the Yes movement to come together at this event to campaign for Scotland’s independence, our right to choose our future, to undo the damage of Brexit and rejoin the European family of nations. We aim to create an inclusive, family friendly, joyous event with keynote speakers and inspiring performers.

The event will feature high-profile contributors from across the movement. Speakers announced so far include folk singer Iona Fyfe (who will also perform) and grassroots campaign leaders including author and broadcaster Lesley Riddoch and Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp of Business for Scotland/Believe in Scotland. Minister for Independence Jamie Hepburn MSP will also speak at the event.

More speakers and entertainment will be announced soon.

Participants are asked to assemble for the march at Johnston Terrace by Edinburgh Castle at 1.30pm. The rally will be at the Scottish Parliament.

Commenting on the event, Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp said:
Since its launch in 2019, Believe in Scotland has taken the lead in campaigning for Scottish independence and supporting the grassroots civic/non-party political affiliated Yes movement. This will be Believe in Scotland’s first march and rally and we’re pleased to partner with Yes for EU. EU membership is a crucial argument for converting voters to Yes and it’s also vital for Scotland’s economy, as the Brexit disaster has proven.

Responding, Morag Williamson, Yes for EU Convenor, said:
We’re delighted to join forces with Believe in Scotland for this event and we’re confident it will bring indy supporters together in striving for the aim of an independent Scotland in the EU.
